THE ROAD TO PERMANENT RESIDENCE – PREVIEW

In an earlier blog post, we mentioned that a large percentage of foreign nationals move to the UK and other countries in the West as students before transitioning to working professional status. For some people, this happens without any previous intention to make such a transition. If you’ve come in as a student without any existing employment commitments in your home country, it is only reasonable to start looking for a job after your time as a student. Some end up getting their desired job and begin the journey of their professional careers.

For many others though, there’s a long-term plan at play – to achieve permanent residence status. In our next few posts, we discuss some of the popular routes to attaining permanent residence status in a number of countries. You might find that a lot of countries have many more routes to permanent residence status than you could have imagined.

Take the UK for example. While popular routes to permanent residence such as the Skilled Worker visa (formerly Tier 2 visa) and ‘long-residence’ are well-known, several others exist. We won’t exhaust all the possible visa categories on this platform but hopefully you find a couple of options you were not aware of.
